A summary of various types of boards! Remember these tips and choose the right boards
In the market, we often hear various board names, such as medium-density fiberboard, ecological board, and core board. Merchants hold different opinions, which makes people dazzled.
Among them, some boards look similar but have different names due to different processes, and there are also many "flower names" but actually refer to the same type of board. Here is a list of common board names for everyone. Remember these little knowledge and don't get lost when choosing boards!
Three major man-made boards: plywood, particle board, and MDF.
1. Density board (fiber density board)
Density fiberboard
Broad sense: Based on the concept and definition of the term "density board", it can be divided according to raw materials and density. According to raw materials, it can be divided into plywood, veneer and particle board, and according to density, it can be divided into low, medium and high density grades.
Narrow sense: The density board mentioned in the market generally refers to fiberboard. Fiber density board is made by soaking wood, branches and other objects in water and then crushing and pressing them. Here we classify it in this way.
High-density fiberboard (hardboard) (HDF)
High-density fiberboard combines all the advantages of medium-density fiberboard.
Uses: indoor and outdoor decoration, office, high-end furniture, audio, luxury car interior decoration, and can also be used as a material for anti-static flooring, wall panels, anti-theft doors, wall panels, partitions, etc. in computer rooms. In recent years, it has replaced high-end hardwood and directly processed into composite flooring, laminate flooring, etc., and is widely used in interior decoration.
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
Uniform internal structure, moderate density, good dimensional stability, small deformation, and moderate physical and mechanical properties. The surface is flat and smooth, with good machining performance, and sliced veneer or patterns can be pasted on it.
Uses: Commonly used in making furniture, partitions, etc. It is an excellent material for furniture manufacturing and building interior decoration.
The common Australian pine board is a medium density board.
1.Low-density fiberboard (soft fiberboard) (LDF, SB, IB)
Soft fiberboard has insulation, heat insulation, sound absorption and other properties.
Use: Construction, such as wall panels and ceilings of broadcasting studios and theaters.
2. Particleboard (Particleboard)
Oriented Structural Particleboard (OSB)
OSB
OSB is the fastest growing board in the world and is an upgraded product of blockboard and plywood. It has low formaldehyde emission, is strong and durable, and is lighter than furniture made of medium-density fiberboard, solid wood particleboard, and melamine board.
Uses: Widely used in construction, decoration, furniture, packaging and other fields.
There is also a board called LSB, which is a lightweight and high-strength oriented particle board, an upgraded version of OSB, which can be directly veneered.
Non-oriented structural particle board (solid wood particle board)
Solid wood particle board
It has strong decorative performance, is not easy to deform due to warping, has strong nail holding force, and has good processing performance. Most of the domestic panel furniture industry uses solid wood particle board.
3. Plywood
Eco-board
Also known as melamine board, paint-free board, antibacterial board, clean board, etc. Eco-board uses a variety of boards and is a type of veneer in terms of production technology.
Broad sense: Eco-board is a decorative board made of particleboard, density fiberboard, plywood, blockboard and other boards as the base material, and paper with different colors or textures is processed and hot-pressed on its surface. The name of eco-board is too general, and many eco-friendly boards can also be called eco-boards.
Narrow sense: The eco-board mentioned in the market generally refers to melamine board (melamine impregnated film paper veneer artificial board).
Multi-layer solid wood board
4. Solid wood board
Solid wood board is a wood board made of complete wood (logs). Solid wood boards are generally classified according to the name of the board substance (log material), and there is no unified standard specification. Because solid wood boards are expensive and require high construction technology, they are not often used in decoration.
